Kathmandu: In a joint operation conducted by the District Police Office Parsa and Birgunj Metropolitan City, the National Medical College in Birgunj came under scrutiny resulting in the arrest of the college’s Managing Director (MD) Shahnawaz Hussain Ansari and lab technician Sanjay Sah.
Led by Kanhaiya Thakur, a member of the market management and monitoring committee of the Birgunj Metropolitan City, the monitoring team targeted the laboratory (lab) in Block (A) of the National Medical College. During the raid, Deputy Mayor Imtiyaj Alam and his team discovered expired medicines dating back to 2021 and 2022.
The raid was prompted by information suggesting the use of expired chemicals in laboratory testing procedures. Indeed, expired chemicals were found during the search, leading to the initiation of further investigation processes by the monitoring team into all the seized chemicals.
This incident underscores the importance of stringent monitoring in medical facilities to ensure the safety and well-being of patients. Authorities are expected to continue their investigation to ascertain any potential risks posed by the use of expired substances in medical practices.
