CPN-UML leader Mahesh Basnet accused of rape

Kathmandu: A serious allegation has been leveled against CPN-UML leader Mahesh Basnet, as a woman has registered a complaint accusing him of rape.

According to police sources, the woman submitted her complaint to the district attorney’s office via post, alleging that Basnet had coerced her into sexual intercourse. Subsequently, the public prosecutor forwarded a report to the District Police Range in Kathmandu, instructing them to launch a thorough investigation into the matter.

In response to the complaint, Kathmandu Police have initiated a preliminary investigation. The victim alleges that despite being in a relationship with Basnet for several years, he later raped her and compelled her to undergo an abortion.

The allegations against Basnet are serious and require meticulous investigation to ascertain the truth. Authorities are expected to conduct a fair and impartial inquiry into the matter, ensuring justice for the victim while upholding the principles of due process and the rule of law.
