Kathmandu: Tourists have demanded to resume regular international flights, however in limited numbers, to curb corruption in the name of chartered flights. The government has canceled international scheduled flights to Nepal in course of preventing covid-19 infection.
However, on the initiative of the embassies, chartered flights from Nepal have been re-launched to repatriate foreign nationals.
As chartered flights will be controversial and only foreign airlines will get the opportunity, tourism entrepreneurs have urged to give priority to Nepal Airlines Corporation by opening a limited number of scheduled flights.
The Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA) has drawn the attention of the government to operate international scheduled flights from May 25, 2021 through Nepal Airlines Corporation.
Apart from the corporation, NATTA has also drawn the attention of the government to allow only limited flights to the airlines flying in Nepal for the time being. According to NATTA, passengers have been affected due to high airfares on international chartered flights and non-issuance of tickets by travel agencies.
Natta has also demanded that Nepali and foreign nationals traveling through regular flights should be required to fully comply with health safety standards.
The government has now issued permission for chartered flights at a time when regular flights have been suspended. Today alone, permission has been issued for 11 flights including cargo from Tribhuvan International Airport.
