Supreme court order to allow prisoners to participate in parliament election

Kathmandu: The Supreme Court has issued an interim order to compile and update the voter list of the prisoners in the upcoming election to the House of Representatives.

A single bench of Justice Sapana Malla Pradhan passed the interim order in the name of the government on Friday.

The order states, “As the Election Commission is in the process of compiling and updating the voter list, it is time to compile and update the voter list of the prisoners for the purpose of proportional representation in the upcoming election to the House of Representatives.”

In the first and second Constituent Assembly elections of 2064 BS and 2070 BS, the names of the employees working in government government offices, local bodies or organizations owned or controlled by the Government of Nepal, persons in military or police barracks or Maoist combatants in temporary camps at that time, prisoners or detainees.
