Restaurants demands to levy service charge

Kathmandu: The Central United Trade Union Struggle Committee of restaurant owners has announced seven-day protest against the decision of the supreme court over service charge.

They have demanded to restore 10 percent service charge.

On Wednesday, the trade unions working in hotels and restaurants held a protest in Kathmandu and announced a phased wise seven-day strike demanding restoration of 10 percent service charge.

They are putting black banners will at the main gate of every hotel and restaurant. Likewise, every employees will work by tying black stripes or black headbands.

Last Wednesday, the Supreme Court ruled that hotels and restaurants cannot collect service fees from customers.

The Constitutional Bench of Permanent Chief Justice Harikrishna Karki, Justices Vishwambhar Prasad Shrestha, Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada, Anand Mohan Bhattarai and Anil Kumar Sinha decided on the petition filed by Premlal Maharjan on 23rd June 2067 demanding cancellation of service fee.
