Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has directed not to increase MBBS fees.
During the fifth meeting of the Medical Education Commission held at the PM’s residence in Baluwatar, Prime Minister Oli directed not to implement the hiked fee submitted by the task force.
The Commission had recommended to increase the amount for MBBS program from Rs. 800,000 to Rs. 4.8 million in the academic session 2020/2021. In today’s meeting, Oli, who is also the chairperson of the commission, has instructed to immediately postpone the increase in fees as it would have a negative impact on the situation.
“Don’t talk about raising fees now, postpone it,” said PM Oli. In the meeting, the co-chairman of the commission and Minister for Education, Science and Technology Krishna Gopal Shrestha had suggested not to increase the fee in this case as it would send a wrong message to the public.
