Kathmandu: Sabitra Bhandari, the prominent forward of the Nepali national football team, has etched her name in the record books by scoring her inaugural goal in the Division 1 Féminine, the prestigious French women’s football league.
Currently representing En Avant Guingamp, Bhandari marked her groundbreaking achievement as the first Nepali player to find the back of the net in European football. Her remarkable goal came during Guingamp’s clash with Lille, where she secured the team’s second goal.
Bhandari’s return to France followed her noteworthy participation in the WAFF Women’s Championship held in Saudi Arabia. Unfortunately, her absence in the final against Jordan proved crucial as Nepal succumbed to defeat in a penalty shootout, finishing as the tournament’s runner-up.
The football sensation had to depart the championship before the decisive final match, impacting Nepal’s performance in the critical game. Despite the setback, Bhandari’s historic goal in the Division 1 Féminine has brought pride to the Nepali football community and has positioned her as a trailblazer for the nation in European football.
