Kathmandu: Nepali boxing has achieved historic success at the Asian level of junior and youth boxing.
Nepal’s Chiring Wangdi Sherpa has clinched a medal in the quarterfinals of the junior 54 kg weight category at the ASBC Junior and Youth Boys and Girls Boxing Championships in Dubai.
Nepal’s school boxer Chhiring defeated Kuwait’s rival Mohammad 5-0 in all three rounds.
Chiring will now face Kazakhstan’s Adalbek Niyazba in the semifinals.
Similarly, two female boxers from Nepal, Swastika Thiruwale and Narika Rai, have bagged bronze medals in the 52 kg and 57 kg weight categories respectively.
Out of six participating boxers from Nepal, three bronze medals have been secured so far.
Another young boxer, Indra Bahadur Sunar, who was hoping for a medal, won the first round with an Iranian player. But he lost in the second and third rounds.
