Kathmandu: Nepal has been declared the happiest country in South Asia. In the list of happy countries of 2021 made public by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network under the United Nations, Nepal is ranked 87th with 5.26 points.
Nepal was ranked 100th in 2019 and 92nd in 2020. This time, it has risen five places to become the happiest country in South Asia. In 2019, Nepal became the third happiest country after Bhutan and Pakistan. The United Nations conducted a study in 149 countries based on social, psychological and economic indicators after the coronavirus epidemic. Gross domestic product, social assistance, individual liberty and the level of corruption were considered indicators of the study.
According to the report, Finland is once again the happiest country in the world. As the most unhappy country, SAARC member country Afghanistan is at the bottom. Neighboring India is ranked 144th. India is below Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
Finland is followed by Denmark, Switzerland, Iceland, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Luxembourg, New Zealand and Austria.
