Nepal celebrates 70 years of first successful ascent of Mt Everest

Kathmandu: Today marks 70 years since the first successful ascent of Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak.

On this day, May 29, 1953, Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary set foot on Mount Everest for the first time.

In commemoration of the same climb, ‘Platinum Jubilee’ is being celebrated in connection with the 70th anniversary of climbing Mount Everest.

The day is being celebrated organizing various events across the country.

To make the day grand, a core organizing committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Tourism Ministry Secretary Suresh Adhikari with representative organizations of the tourism sector.
