MoCIT calls for input on proposed ‘Social Sites Act’

Kathmandu: The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MoCIT) in Nepal has opened the floor for input on the proposed ‘Social Sites (Use and Regulations) Act, 2080 BS.’ The purpose of the bill is to curb the misuse of social media platforms, fostering a more responsible, secure, and orderly use.

The main objectives of the Act are to establish accountability for both social platform operators and users, promoting social goodwill, cultural tolerance, and good governance. One notable provision in the draft mandates individuals, companies, or organizations intending to operate social platforms to register with the Social Sites Management Center.

Feedback on the proposed Act is welcomed through the official Ministry website ([email protected]) until January 29. The Ministry aims to create a regulatory framework that encourages responsible use and contributes positively to society.
