Lawmaker’s proposal to reduce the minimum age of marriage to 18 years

Kathmandu: The lawmakers have proposed reducing the minimum age of marriage to 18 years.

Currently, Nepal’s law allows marriage only after reaching the age of 20.

On Monday, the Law, Justice and Human Resource Committee of the House of Representatives had a discussion on the crime and legal system. This was stated by lawmakers Min Bishwakarma of Nepali Congress, Laxman Lal Karna of Loktantrik Samajwadi Party, Matrika Yadav of CPN-Maoist Center, and CPN-UML MP and committee chairperson Krishna Bhakta Pokharel.

Stating that the tendency to stay in Living Together due to the minimum age for marriage and later to file a complaint of rape has also increased MPs have requested to reduce the legal age for marriage.
