KMC begins market monitoring to demotivate use of plastic

Kathmandu: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is going to tighten the plastic prohibition campaign.

In the budget of the financial year 2080/81 B.S, KMC announced to prohibit uses of polythene bags, plastic flowers and decorative materials.

Accordingly, KMC has tighten market monitoring. In the budget, the KMC has mentioned that it will be prohibited to ‘bring, store and sell polythene bags less than 40 microns thick, fake flowers and decorative items and materials within the Metropolitan City’.

Balendra Shah, head of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, has said that a team will be mobilized to monitor uses of plastic.

According to the metropolis, the monitoring team will check the plastic in use with a micrometer.

According to the Metropolitan Corporation, it is estimated that around 5 million plastic bags are being used in Kathmandu Valley every day.
