Kathmandu: Goalkeeper of the Nepali national football team Kiran Chemjong and Para Taekwondo player Palesha Govardhan have been awarded the National Sports Council best player of the year.
On the occasion of council’s 59th anniversary, the council has honored Kiran of football and Palesha of Para Taekwondo in a program organized today.
Kiran was he captain of the Nepali football team that won the Three Nations Cup title in 2020. Only two weeks ago, the Maldivian team including Kiran won the Maldives League and AFA Cup titles.
Similarly, Palesha, who reached the quarterfinals of the Paralympics held in Japan last year, won a gold medal in Taekwondo at the Asian Youth Para Games in November.
Similarly, Ivana Thapa of table tennis and Sudeep Tharu of athletics were awarded as the best player of the year for juniors. Ivana, who excelled in junior women, won a silver medal in the cadet girls’ team events of the South Asian Cadet and Junior Table Tennis Tournament held in Maldives this year, while Sudeep set a national record in the 12th President’s Running Shield.
