Kathmandu Metropolitan City got selected for Swiss Tourism Award

Kathmandu: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has been selected for the ‘Swiss Tourism Award 2023’.

For the award program to be held in Lugano, Switzerland from November 3rd to 5th of this year, the organizers have sent a letter to the head of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Balendra Shah (Balen), and said, ‘The judging committee of scientific professionals in the tourism sector has chosen for the award. We invite you to participate in this program to introduce the dimensional aspects of this region to the general public and to promote the uniqueness of tourism destinations.’

It has been mentioned in the letter that Kathmandu’s cultural, religious and archaeological history, tangible intangible heritage and vibrant urban environment fascinate the visitors. ‘It fascinates visitors from all over the world.’

This award has been held for the past 15 years. Local level (metropolitan city, sub-metropolitan city, municipality) can apply for the award. A certain number of applicants are nominated for the award.

The main objective of the program is to promote natural and cultural heritages as tourist destinations, to make tourism service standards competitive.

Its other purpose is to increase the potential of tourism development, to help communicate and market the destinations to convey information to amateur tourists.

In the award program, destinations are promoted internationally including Switzerland and Italy. Similarly, the value of tourism and professions are discussed in cities that are honored.

Local level officials, officials and representatives of respected organizations will participate in the destination promotion program.
