Govt to build 100 bed temporary hospital for covid patients

Kathmandu: The government has announced to build a 1,000-bed temporary hospital in the provinces and federal.

Addressing the nation on Monday, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said that the life of the people is the first responsibility of the government. Stating that all government mechanisms have been mobilized to control the second wave, he said that decisions have been taken to stop air travel and tighten the prohibitory order.

He said that the Nepal Army has been tasked to build a temporary hospital of one thousand beds in the province and federal. Prime Minister Oli said, “The new building of Bir Hospital, Trichandra Military Hospital of the Nepal Army, medical colleges with many beds in the Kathmandu Valley, large government and private hospitals will be operated as covid hospitals.”

He informed that the province government will also run medical colleges and large hospitals as covid hospitals and small hospitals as non-covid hospitals.

Prime Minister Oli has informed that all public places, meeting halls, stadiums, hotels, party palaces, factories and warehouses will be equipped with facilities including quarantine, isolation and holding center.

He said that the decision has been taken to set up medical plants in big hospitals and medical colleges, to repair the non-operating ones and to stop the export of liquid oxygen. Prime Minister Oli said that the oxygen produced from oxygen plants across the country is currently being supplied to other areas for use only for hospital and treatment purposes.

He said that retired doctors and other health workers will be contracted for one year to prevent a shortage of manpower and a 50 percent risk allowance of the initial salary scale would be given to frontline doctors, health workers and security personnel.
