Govt says no to processed food for children

Kathmandu: The Center for Education and Human Resource Development (School Education Standards Determination Branch) has instructed schools not to feed ready-made packets to children.

The center has instructed all the local levels not to feed such prepared food after they received complaints that some schools have been buying ready-made packets from the market.

The Center has instructed not to act in a manner that is against the government’s policy and affects the health sensitivity of children and also improves the income level of local farmers.

In addition to this, the center has also instructed the school to prepare a lunch menu on a weekly basis using locally produced food items and cook it according to the standards and provide fresh, clean and balanced food.

The government has been arranging lunch for the children of all the community schools from elementary school to class 5.
