Election commission urges media to adhere to code of conduct

Kathmandu: The Election Commission (EC) has warned that some media outlets have published and broadcasted material for or against parties and candidates against the Election Code of Conduct.

The commission has requested not to publish and broadcast predictable material with the intention of ensuring victory or defeat of this or that party as it requires the contribution of all sections of the society to make the election free, fair, fearless and credible.

The Commission has stated that clarification has been sought on the basis of complaints and information lodged against some media outlets for publishing and broadcasting material contrary to the Code of Conduct.

The commission has also urged all media outlets and journalists not to publish or broadcast any material contrary to the election code of conduct.

The commission has also stated that complaints can be lodged with the commission about any media outlet that provides material contrary to the code of conduct.

Meanwhile, the commission has appealed to the voters against the code of conduct and demanded a response from the five journalists’ associations to submit explanations within 24 hours.
