Kathmandu: The Department of Tourism (DoT) has raised concerns and requested an explanation from world-record mountaineer Nirmal Purja regarding his ‘skydiving’ activities in the Mount Everest region, which were reportedly conducted without prior authorization.
Purja, renowned for conquering all 14 mountains exceeding 8,000 meters in just six months and six days, recently launched his ‘Skydive Nims Dai’ project in the Mount Everest area.
Elite Expeditions, Purja’s mountaineering company, has refuted allegations of unauthorized skydiving, asserting that they obtained all necessary permits for their operations.
The company provided documents supporting their claim of securing permissions from the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, as required by regulations.
