Kathmandu:President Bidhya Devi Bhandari has dissolved the parliament on the recommendation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. Also, the date of the mid-term elections has been fixed.
After the cabinet meeting on Sunday morning, Prime Minister Oli had submitted a proposal to the President to dissolve the parliament . The proposal to dissolve parliament was opposed by the ministers themselves, with both the ruling and opposition parties saying it was unconstitutional.
However, President Bhandari announced the dissolution of the parliament in accordance with Article 76, Clauses 1 and 7 of the Constitution and Article 85 and the basic essence and values of the parliamentary system. She has also fixed mid-term elections for the House of Representatives in two phases in April, 2021 for a fresh mandate as per the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.
