Kathmandu: According to the National Center for AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Diseases, 30 out of HIV-infected people in Nepal are infected with corona.
Of the 29,503 people infected with HIV, 30 with corona infection have recovered after treatment.
According to the center a total of 29,503 people including 17,587 men and 11,916 women are currently infected with HIV in Nepal. The corona epidemic has not affected the treatment of HIV positive people though and the distribution of medicines.
The center has mentioned that even though it is necessary to take precautions, there is no need to be afraid of HIV-infected corona by taking regular medicine and constantly consulting a doctor.
About 80 percent of HIV infections in Nepal are transmitted through unprotected sex, according to the center.
According to the center, the rate of HIV infection is high among injecting drug users and gay sex workers.
Compared to 2010, the number of new infections in Nepal has decreased by 64 percent by 2019. The government aims to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030. The center has stated that free medicine is being distributed from 80 ART centers.
A budget of Rs 567.2 million has been allocated for the control of AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases this year, according to the Center. Out of which, only 85 percent of the budget is spent on medicines and pharmaceutical products.
The 33rd World AIDS Day is being observed today with the slogan of global solidarity and shared responsibility for HIV control and prevention.
