Climbers and mountain guides are mandatory to have insurance

Kathmandu: Nepal Mountaineering Association has made it mandatory for both climbers and mountain guides to have accident insurance for expedition in Nepal. The Association has made it mandatory that the climbers and mountain guide will not receive expedition permit without insurance certificate.

Nepali climbers and guides must have accident insurance worth Rs 1.5 million. According to the association, while inspecting the climbing permit, one has to submit the original copy of the accident insurance document.

In addition, the climbers and guides have to have medical treatment insurance worth Rs 400,000 and helicopter rescue insurance worth Rs 10,000. The association has clarified that expedition will be allowed only after submitting a letter of commitment from the insurance company for these two insurances.
