Attempted illegal currency transport foiled at Tribhuvan International Airport

Kathmandu: In a significant operation, authorities at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) have apprehended a 19-year-old girl, Sushmita Gole, from Jugal Rural Municipality-2, Sindhupalchowk, for attempting to transport currency illegally to the UAE.

The incident unfolded on Monday afternoon when TIA authorities detained Gole during routine checks. Upon inspection at the baggage checking area, the police discovered a substantial amount of currency in her possession as she was about to board a FlyDubai flight from Kathmandu.

Sushmita Gole was found in possession of UAE Dirhams worth 10,000 and Saudi Riyals worth 149,000. The discovery raises questions about the nature and purpose of the illegal currency transport.

TIA authorities have confirmed that a thorough investigation is currently underway to delve into the circumstances surrounding the recovered currency. The incident highlights the vigilance of airport authorities in thwarting attempts at illegal activities, underscoring the importance of robust security measures at international airports.
