Kathmandu: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has successfully secured a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives (HoR) for the fourth time.
During the HoR meeting, a total of 158 Members of Parliament were present. Out of these, an overwhelming majority of 157 MPs cast their votes in favor of Prime Minister Dahal, while only one vote was cast against him.
The necessity for this vote of confidence arose following the withdrawal of support by the Janata Samajwadi Party-Nepal from the government on May 13. As per constitutional requirements, a vote of confidence must be sought within 30 days of a coalition partner withdrawing its support to the government.
Prime Minister Dahal exercised his constitutional prerogative by seeking the vote of confidence from the HoR under Article 100 (2) of the Constitution.
This marks the fourth instance since assuming office on December 25, 2022, that Prime Minister Dahal has sought and received a vote of confidence. Notably, his previous three votes of confidence were sought on March 13, 2024, March 20, 2023, and January 10, 2023, respectively.
In the preceding instances, Prime Minister Dahal demonstrated his ability to maintain the confidence of the majority, despite facing challenges such as the withdrawal of support from key political allies.
In light of this successful vote of confidence, the political stability of Nepal under Prime Minister Dahal’s leadership is reaffirmed.
Moreover, the House of Representatives is scheduled to convene for its next meeting on Tuesday at 11 AM, setting the stage for further legislative deliberations and governance matters. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
