Kathmandu: On April 28, 2024, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea and the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) came together to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Korea and Nepal. This momentous occasion was marked by a special event held in Kathmandu.
Highlighting the spirit of collaboration between the two nations, the event celebrated the successful completion of the JUGAL Himal expedition. Led by renowned Korean mountaineer and honorary Nepali citizen Um Hong Gil, along with record-setter climber Dawa Yangzum Sherpa leading the Nepali team, the joint expedition conquered recently opened mountain peaks in the Sindhupalchowk district near Kathmandu. The expedition, which took place from April 5 to April 27, 2024, symbolized the enduring friendship and adventurous spirit shared between Nepal and the Republic of Korea.
In a press statement issued by the embassy, Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Hit Bahadur Tamang, conveyed congratulatory messages on the auspicious occasion of the 50th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. He emphasized the longstanding bond of respect and trust that has characterized the bilateral relationship, citing it as a model of friendly coexistence and mutually beneficial cooperation across various sectors.
Ambassador PARK Tae-Young of the Republic of Korea in Nepal reflected on the 50-year journey as a testament to shared values and mutual respect, contributing to personal and economic development. He underscored the Korean government’s continuous designation of Nepal as a priority cooperation country for 15 consecutive years in development cooperation, with a focus on vocational education, health, agriculture, and ICT.
The event was graced by the presence of Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, parliament members, diplomats, and high-level officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Also in attendance were media personnel, representatives from the business community in the tourism sector, and all members of the expedition team.
As Nepal and the Republic of Korea embark on the next chapter of their diplomatic journey, this event serves as a testament to the enduring friendship and collaborative spirit that bind the two nations together.
