Kathmandnu: Nepali Congress’s bid to delay the election of the National Assembly chairperson, originally slated for March 12, has been met with firm opposition.
During a pivotal meeting on Sunday morning at the Parliament House in New Baneshwar, attended by representatives from all political parties in the National Assembly, Krishna Sitaula, the leader of the NC parliamentary party in the National Assembly, proposed a brief postponement of the chairperson election. However, consensus among the parties proved elusive, ultimately leading to the rejection of the NC’s proposal. As a result, the election of the National Assembly chairperson is set to proceed as planned on March 12.
Earlier deliberations during the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee on Working Arrangements of the National Assembly had outlined that the date and time for the chairperson election would be finalized on March 10, with the election itself scheduled for March 12.
The Parliament Secretariat confirmed that the agenda, inclusive of the decision to adhere to the specified timeline for the elections, has been established. The National Assembly meeting, initially scheduled for Sunday at 1:09 PM, was poised to announce the election date for the chairman. The rejection of the NC’s proposal underscores the commitment to maintaining the election schedule. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing political story.
