Qatar seeks Nepal’s support in Asian Games

Kathmandu: Qatar, which is vying for the 2030 Asian Games, has appealed to the Nepal Olympic Committee for help.

A delegation of the Qatar Olympic Committee on Thursday formally requested the Nepal Olympic Committee for its support and assistance in claiming the 2030 Asian Games.

A team led by General Secretary of the Qatar Olympic Committee Rashid JA Albunin met with the team including the Chairman of the Nepal Olympic Committee Jeevan Ram Shrestha at the office of the Nepal Olympic Committee at Satdobato.

The team also presented a special program of Qatar’s bid for the 2030 Asian Games. Expressing happiness over welcoming the Qatari team to Nepal, Shrestha wished success to the Qatari bid for the 2030 Asian Games.

“Qatar has already successfully hosted the 2006 Asian Games. “Qatar and Nepal are committed to mutual cooperation in the development of sports,” said Shrestha.

Speaking on the occasion, Albunin, the head of the Qatari team, said that he was happy to visit Nepal and requested for Nepal’s help and support in his country’s claim.

The Qatari team also included Dahlan Zaman Al Hamad, president of the Asian Athletics Association, and Mohamed Youssef Al Mann, president of the Asian Weightlifting Association.

Along with Qatar, Saudi Arabia has also submitted its bid for the 2030 Asian Games. The 39th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia to be held in Muscat, Oman on December 16 will select the organizers of the 2030 Asian Games.

Organizers will be selected through voting. In which 45 Olympic committees of Asia will vote.
