Kathmandu: The United Arab Emirates will implement its annual midday work ban from June 15 to September 15, prohibiting outdoor labor between 12:30 PM and 3:00 PM to protect workers from extreme summer heat.
Now in its 21st year, the measure applies to all work conducted under direct sunlight and in open areas, particularly affecting sectors such as construction, landscaping, and delivery services.
Authorities emphasized that the ban is part of the UAE’s broader strategy to enhance occupational safety, prevent heat-related illnesses, and promote sustainable work practices during the summer months.
Employers are required to provide shaded rest areas, drinking water, and schedule tasks during cooler periods of the day. The public has been urged to report any violations.
The UAE Embassy in Kathmandu stated that the initiative reflects the country’s leadership in labour rights and workplace health standards, reinforcing its commitment to a safe and humane working environment.
