Kathmandu: Former U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested permanently resettling displaced Palestinians outside Gaza and proposed U.S. “ownership” in transforming the war-torn territory into the “Riviera of the Middle East.” Speaking alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump claimed the U.S. would take over Gaza’s reconstruction after resettling its population elsewhere.

The proposal drew swift condemnation from U.S. allies, including Egypt, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia, who warned of regional instability. The Saudi foreign ministry reaffirmed its commitment to an independent Palestinian state, calling Trump’s remarks “unacceptable.” Hamas also denounced the plan, calling it a “recipe for chaos.”

The comments come amid delicate negotiations over a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, with Netanyahu under pressure from his right-wing coalition to resume military action. The White House is also grappling with the complex future of Gaza’s governance and reconstruction.
