Kathmandu: Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has reduced the operating period of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). An advance date has also been fixed for this.
According to TIA, the operation period of the airport will be only 18 hours daily from March 28. At present, the airport is being operated for21 hours a day.
However, TIA informed that the flight duration has been changed as there was no expected pressure on flight movement. After the outbreak of the corona virus, domestic flights are now satisfactory though.
International flights, however, have not grown as expected. Tourist arrivals have not increased due to various restrictions imposed by the government on tourist arrivals.
According to TIA, the airport will be closed at 12:30 am. It will only open at 6:30 in the morning. Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has set an advance date for the operation of the airport with the objective of managing the slots and shifting the time.
At present, Nepal Airlines Corporation flies to Narita, Japan at 1 am.
Currently, an average of 230 flights is being operated from and to TIA. Of these, 15 flights are of international destinations while there are 115 domestic flights on average.
