Kathmandu: Following India’s recent airstrikes on Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, heavy shelling has been reported along several border areas of Jammu and Kashmir, including Poonch, Rajouri, Mendhar, and Uri sectors.
According to BBC Hindi, the shelling has triggered panic among locals, with many residents seeking shelter in hospitals and other safe locations.
Jamrud Mughal, a resident of Poonch, told BBC Hindi over the phone that loud explosions were heard in the Poonch sector. “People are rushing to hospitals and secure areas,” he said, adding that a shell landed near the Forest Department office in the main market of Poonch.
The overall atmosphere in the region remains highly tense.
A police officer, speaking to BBC Hindi, confirmed that shelling took place in the Uri sector on Wednesday morning. However, the official declined to provide further details.
This development comes amid heightened military tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors, raising concerns over further escalation along the Line of Control (LoC).
