Supreme court orders to dismiss Rabi Lamichhane’s MP post as well as post of home minister

Kathmandu: The Supreme Court has revoked the post of MP of Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane.

Along with this, his post of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister has also been scrapped.

Lamichhane, who is also the chairman of the Rashtriya Swatantra Party, was elected as a member of the House of Representatives from Chitwan Region No. 2 in the elections held in November.

The apex court has taken decision over the compaint filed against the Lamichhane that claims he did not have Nepali citizenship.

The Constitutional Bench of Chief Justice Harikrishna Karki, Justice Vishwambhar Prasad Shrestha, Ishjar Khatiwada and Anand Mohan Bhattarai and Anil Kumar Sinha stated that they did not give proper information to the relevant officer (CDO) about relinquishing American citizenship and did not complete the application process as per the Citizenship Act and Regulations.

The court ruled that Lamichhane’s activities such as appointing a candidate, declaring him elected, giving a certificate, etc. according to Article 137, Sub-section (2), (3) and Article 137 of the Constitution, shall be canceled.
