Strong earthquake jolts Nepal, no damage reported

Kathmandu: Kathmandu and large parts of Nepal were shaken by strong tremors early this morning, prompting residents to rush out of their homes. The earthquake, measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale, struck at 6:50 AM, with its epicenter in Dinggye County, Tibet, China.

The quake revived memories of the catastrophic 7.6 magnitude Gorkha earthquake of April 25, 2015. The tremors were strongly felt in eastern hilly districts, including Solukhumbu, Okhaldhunga, Khotang, Sankhuwasabha, and Bhojpur, with vibrations reaching as far as the Tarai region. Solukhumbu, bordering Tibet, reported significant shaking.

Despite the intensity and duration of the quake, no immediate damage has been reported from the district headquarters marketplace in Solukhumbu. Authorities are currently conducting assessments, and further details are awaited.
