Street vendors in Kathmandu protest against KMC

Kathmandu: Street vendors within the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) have staged demonstrations, jointly organized by the National Self-Employed Traders Association, Nepal Street Trade Union, and street vendors themselves, to express their grievances against the KMC’s actions.

Vendors accused the KMC of disrupting negotiations and engaging in unilateral actions. Allegedly, the metropolis confiscated vendors’ goods at night after feigning negotiations. They emphasized the need for the KMC to address the demands of the street vendors, who are seeking permission to conduct their businesses.

The protest highlights the ongoing challenges faced by street vendors in negotiating with the metropolitan authorities.
