Sri Lanka wins Women’s Asia Cup T20 Cricket defeating India

Kathmandu: Sri Lanka has claimed the Women’s Asia Cup T20 Cricket title by defeating India by 8 wickets in today’s final. Sri Lanka achieved the target of 166 runs set by India with 8 balls to spare, losing only 2 wickets.

Harshitha Samarawickrama of Sri Lanka scored an unbeaten 69, while captain Chamari Athapaththu contributed 61 runs. Dipti Sharma from India took 1 wicket.

Earlier, India, batting first after winning the toss in Dambulla, scored 165 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs. Smriti Mandhana scored 60 runs, Richa Ghosh 30 runs, and Jemimah Rodrigues 29 runs. Kavisha Dilhari from Sri Lanka took 2 wickets.

This is Sri Lanka’s first Women’s Asia Cup title. Previously, Sri Lanka had reached the finals in 2004, 2005–06, 2006, 2008, and 2022, but had been limited to runners-up. India, on the other hand, has won the title seven times and been runners-up twice.
