Kathmandu: Concerned about the safety and well-being of their loved ones serving in the Russian military, families of Nepali citizens deployed abroad have taken their plea for evacuation to the forefront. On Monday afternoon, they staged a demonstration outside the Russian Embassy in Baluwatar, calling for urgent action.
Six individuals participating in the protest were detained by police. Seeking assistance for various urgent matters including locating Nepali citizens who have lost contact after joining the Russian military, repatriating the bodies of those deceased, and facilitating the return of individuals who have been stranded, the families have resorted to various forms of protest.
Their demands also include proper treatment for Nepali soldiers injured in combat, arrangements for compensation to the families of the deceased, and simplification of procedures for receiving allowances.
Families of individuals recruited in the Russian military have been on a hunger strike at Shanti Batika for the past 11 days, demanding attention to their grievances.
