Kathmandu: Nepali mountaineer and photojournalist Purnima Shrestha has been featured in CNN’s list, ‘The Extreme Athletes Who Pushed Limits in 2024.’
Purnima made history as the first woman in the world to scale Mount Everest three times in a single climbing season. She successfully reached the summit on May 12, 19, and 25 this year, achieving a groundbreaking feat.
Following her inclusion in CNN’s prestigious list, Purnima expressed her pride and gratitude through social media. “The year 2024 has been a historic one for me. This year, I became the first and only woman in the world to successfully climb Mount Everest three times in a single season,” she stated.
In addition to her Everest accomplishments, Purnima is also the first Nepali woman to summit Dhaulagiri, the world’s seventh-highest peak. She achieved this milestone in 2021 alongside Pasang Lhamu Sherpa Akita.
Her extraordinary achievements continue to inspire and bring global recognition to Nepal’s mountaineering legacy.
