Kathmandu: Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have won the UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history, dismantling Inter Milan 5–0 in a stunning final at the Allianz Arena in Munich on Saturday night.
Under the leadership of coach Luis Enrique, PSG delivered one of the most dominant performances ever seen in a European Cup final. The victory was headlined by 19-year-old Desire Doue, who scored twice and assisted once, becoming the youngest player in history to net two goals in a final and the first to be directly involved in three.
Doue opened PSG’s account with an assist to Achraf Hakimi in the 12th minute, scored the second goal himself just eight minutes later, and added a third for the French side shortly after halftime. Further goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and teenager Senny Mayulu sealed Inter’s heaviest defeat in a European final.
With the win, Enrique becomes only the sixth coach to win the Champions League with two different clubs, having previously led Barcelona to the title in 2015. The night was also marked by emotional tributes to Enrique’s late daughter Xana, who died in 2019 at the age of nine from bone cancer. Both Enrique and PSG fans honored her memory with flags and banners featuring her image.
“I’m very happy. It was very emotional at the end with the banner from the fans for my family. But I always think about my daughter,” Enrique said after the match.
Club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi hailed the victory as a turning point: “This season is the best ever. We are building the team for the future. Today, we proved we have the best manager, the best players, and amazing fans.”
The win also symbolizes PSG’s successful transition from the high-profile era of stars like Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, and Lionel Messi to a younger, team-oriented strategy. Throughout this season’s campaign, PSG eliminated top Premier League clubs including Manchester City, Liverpool, Aston Villa, and Arsenal before dominating Inter in the final.
Doue’s performance drew comparisons with legends, becoming only the third teenager to score in a Champions League final after Patrick Kluivert (1995) and Carlos Alberto (2004).
Former Premier League defender Nedum Onuoha called it “the best performance I can remember in a Champions League final.”
The triumph marks a defining moment for PSG and sets a new benchmark for European club football with a youthful, high-energy style and a unified team ethic.
