Kathmandu: The government has drafted a law to increase the compensation for passengers in domestic air accidents equal to international flights.
A 9-member task force led by Joint Secretary of the Ministry Buddhisagar Lamichhane prepared the draft of law. It includes the provisions of the 1999 Montreal Convention will now apply to domestic flights as well.
Accordingly, the close family of the person who lost his life in the plane crash will get one million dollars compensation.
At present, the provisions of the 1929 Warsaw Convention are applicable in Nepal. Due to which the compensation is only 20 thousand dollars. Such compensation will increase five times after the implementation of the new law.
According to the Montreal Convention, insurance for international flights is set at US 160,000. This provision has been implemented in Nepal since December 2018.
