Prime Minister Oli visits drought-hit Madhesh to assess crisis

Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli visited drought-affected areas of the Terai-Madhesh region on Thursday to assess the worsening situation caused by an extended dry spell during the monsoon season.

Earlier this week, the government declared the entire Madhesh Province a disaster-affected area for the next three months. The decision comes amid growing concern over the failure of monsoon rains, which has severely impacted paddy plantation—a key livelihood for farmers in the region.

In the lead-up to the visit, Prime Minister Oli held consultations with federal ministers, provincial representatives, and senior government officials to explore potential responses to the crisis.

During Thursday’s visit, PM Oli is also scheduled to attend official programs in Mahottari and Bara districts, two of the hardest-hit areas in the province.
