Police Open Fire to Control Drug Dealers in Tokha, Kathmandu

Kathmandu: Police had to open fire to control drug dealers in Tokha, Kathmandu, after the drug enforcement team came under attack.

Following intelligence reports of long-standing brown heroin dealing in the Kathmandu Valley, two individuals were apprehended on the road in Sundhara, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-11, at 2 PM today during a search operation.

Interrogation of these individuals revealed that two other dealers were hiding behind Grande Hospital. The police team then used the apprehended individuals to reach Grande.

Upon receiving information that they possessed drugs, a Bureau team arrived at the location at 3:15 PM. According to Superintendent of Police Janak Bahadur Shahi, spokesperson for the Narcotics Control Bureau, the police were forced to fire shots when the two additional individuals attacked the police team with iron rods during the arrest attempt.

During the incident, Police Senior Head Constable Nawaraj Ghising and Police Assistant Head Constable Rabindra KC were injured by the rod attacks. The police initially fired four rounds into the air to gain control.

Even after warning shots, the individuals remained agitated and continued to attack the police. Consequently, three more rounds were fired, bringing them under control, Shahi stated.

Those arrested have been identified as Sumit Kumar, 20, and Chandan Kumar Jaiswal, 25, both from Pathana Danpur, India; Shashik Alam, 40, from West Bengal, India; and Mohammad Manjur Alam, 22, from Bihar, India.

Police reported that the two Alams, who were apprehended after being shot, sustained bullet injuries to their left legs. From them, 200 grams of brown heroin, hidden inside a speaker, were recovered in Tokha Municipality-3.
