Kathmandu: This morning, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli dedicated approximately two hours to a meaningful discussion with the National Women’s Volleyball team at his official residence in Baluwatar.
The conversation centered on the team’s recent achievements, the pressing need for improved infrastructure, and strategies for enhancing Nepal’s performance in international volleyball competitions.
Head coach Jagadish Prasad Bhatta, captain Aruna Shahi, Nepal Volleyball Association Chair Jitendra Bahadur Chand, and player Saraswoti Chaudhary were present at the meeting.
The volleyball squad expressed that this was a rare and valuable opportunity to share breakfast and engage directly with the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Oli explained his absence from the final match of the recent CAVA Women’s Nations Volleyball Tournament was due to an urgent Council of Ministers meeting. However, he reassured the team of his awareness of their goals, concerns, and needs.
The Prime Minister confirmed that the government will honor the silver medal-winning team with a cash prize of Rs 300,000 per player. He acknowledged the financial constraints faced by the government but assured that efforts will be made to support and advance the sport of volleyball.
In addition, the Prime Minister announced plans to construct a volleyball hall of international standards, reflecting his commitment to the sport’s growth.
Oli also recounted feedback from the Russian women’s volleyball team, who praised the performance of the Nepali team and highlighted its significant potential for future success.
