Over 1,250 dengue cases reported across Nepal

Kathmandu: Nepal has recorded 1,255 dengue cases across 72 districts as of June 8, with health authorities warning of heightened risks due to the early onset of the monsoon, according to the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD).

Kathmandu has reported the highest number of infections (132), followed by Kaski (90), Sunsari (87), Chitwan (61), Rupandehi (47), Kanchanpur (37), Dang (32), and Bhaktapur (30). The EDCD said the number is expected to rise significantly during the monsoon months.

The Ministry of Health and Population has urged local governments, communities, and non-governmental organizations to work together in vector control efforts. Officials noted that completely eliminating mosquito larvae is currently unfeasible, making public awareness and preventive action crucial.

Dengue is transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes—primarily Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus—which breed in stagnant water, common during monsoon months. Once infected, humans can transmit the virus to uninfected mosquitoes, increasing its spread.
