Kathmandu: Nepal is yet to bring one million doses of vaccine from the Serum Institute of India. The vaccine will arrive in the first week of April, according to officials at the Ministry of Health and Population. In a recent discussion, the Serum Institute said it would send the vaccine by the first week of April, a ministry official said.
In February, Nepal had signed an agreement with the Serum Institute of India to purchase two million doses of vaccine by paying an advance of USD 4 per dose. Of that, one million doses will arrive in a few days and it was agreed to send the remaining 10 doses by mid-April.
But as per the agreement, Nepal has postponed the vaccination campaign as the vaccine did not arrive on time.
Vaccine exports have been banned in India recently due to the rapid rise in corona infection. However, ministry officials say that one million doses of vaccine will come as Nepal has already paid the amount. The 800,000 doses of vaccine provided by the Chinese government is arriving in Nepal this coming Monday.
