Kathmandu: The International Coordination Council (ICC) of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) is set to hold its annual general meeting and global conclave in Kathmandu on Sunday and Monday. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will inaugurate the event, themed “Transformation and Unity: Labor, Investment, and Continuity of Citizenship.”
During a press conference on Friday, NRNA officials announced that the conclave will feature seven plenary sessions, with over 500 attendees expected on the first day, including government ministers and high-ranking officials. Key topics will cover infrastructure development for economic transformation in Nepal, non-resident Nepali citizenship, voting rights for Gurkhas and people of Nepali origin (PNO), the impact of climate change on women and children, and strategies for creating a prosperous Nepal. ICC Secretary General Gauri Raj Joshi emphasized that discussions will include important aspects of science, knowledge, and technology transfer.
On Monday, the sessions will shift focus to empowering migrant youth for nation-building, ensuring safe and dignified foreign employment, and promoting Nepal’s tourism sector, including policy-making and expectations from the NRNA.
The conclave aims to strengthen cooperation with local and provincial governments, fostering collaboration among non-resident Nepalis, government officials, policy experts, and representatives from various organizations. Joshi announced plans to establish an NRN Development Fund with an investment of Rs 10 billion, aimed at supporting long-term projects that contribute to Nepal’s economic and social development.
Representatives from over 60 countries will participate, both in person and virtually, in the AGM and conclave. Many members of the NRNA have already arrived in Kathmandu in preparation for the event.
