Nepal reach semifinals of T20 World Cup qualifiers

Kathmandu: Nepal has reached the semifinals of the ICC T20 World Cup qualifiers after winning matches of Group A.

Nepal reached the target of 81 runs set by Canada at the Emirates Stadium in Oman on Saturday by losing two wickets in 14 overs.

Kushal Bhurtel scored 34 runs and Dipendra Singh Airy scored 27 runs in Nepal’s victory. Earlier, Ashif Sheikh was dismissed for 17 runs. On the bowling side, Canada’s Kaleem Sana and Salman Nazar took one wicket each.

Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, Canada were bowled out for 80 in 15 overs. Before this, Nepal had defeated the Philippines and the host country Oman.

Nepal will now play with Group B runners-up UAE in the semifinals. In the other semi-final, Group B winners Ireland will face Group A runners-up Oman. The semi-final match will be played on Tuesday.

A similar final game will be played on Thursday. The two finalists will play in the T20 World Cup starting in Australia in October.
