Nepal-India agree to hold next border talks in Kathmandu in August

Kathmandu: Nepal and India have agreed to convene the next meeting of the Survey Officials’ Committee (SOC) in Nepal in August 2025, as part of ongoing bilateral efforts to manage and maintain the border between the two countries.

The agreement was reached during the 7th meeting of the Boundary Working Group (BWG), which reviewed progress on border-related tasks. The Nepali delegation was led by Prakash Joshi, Director General of the Department of Survey, while the Indian side was led by Shri Hitesh Kumar S. Makwana, Surveyor General of India.

According to Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting evaluated the implementation of decisions made during the 6th BWG Meeting held in August 2019, and the 11th SOC meeting held the following month, both in Dehradun, India.

The BWG, established in 2014, is a joint mechanism tasked with overseeing the construction, restoration, and maintenance of boundary pillars and other technical matters concerning the Nepal-India border.

The two sides also agreed to schedule the next BWG meeting in Nepal at a mutually convenient date.
