Nepal celebrates ‘Indra Jatra’ welcoming festive season

Kathmandu: Cultural and historical festival ‘Indra Jatra’ celebrated today in Kathmandu valley.

Today is the major day of ‘Indra Jatra’ which was started on the day of Bhadra Shukla Dwadashi at the palace area of ​​Hanumandhoka on Tuesday morning.

President Ramchandra Paudel, Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, Chief Justice Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha, Speaker Devraj Ghimire, Speaker of the National Assembly Ganesh Prasad Timilsina and other ministers, parliamentarians, members of the state assembly and local people’s representatives witnessed the Indrajatra from Hanumandhoka palace.

Indra Jatra is believed to have started during the reign of Pratap Malla. King Gunakamadeva started the tradition of chariot procession in Indrajatra.

On this day, world’s only living goddess ‘Kumari’ along with Ganesh and Bhairav was worshipped.

On the occasion of Jatra, people performed cultural dances including Lakhe dance, Dashavatar dance, Mahakali dance, Ramchandra dance, Pulukisi dance and others.
