Nepal bans ‘pirated’ sites and apps that broadcast World Cup live

Kathmandu: Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) has decided to ban OTT apps and websites for unauthorized live streaming of World Cup football.

The Authority, which is a government regulation organization for the telecommunication sector, has taken this decision to prevent violation of the right of media hub to broadcast live throughout Nepal.

Along with this, the authority has also given the right to ban such websites and apps to internet service provider companies. On Friday, the authority issued instructions to all internet service providers to stop unauthorized transmission.

The authority has mentioned that media rights have been taken from the official organization in the name of Media Hub Pvt. Officially in Nepal, no mobile app and OTT and website have the right to broadcast such content.
