Kathmandu: Nepal is on the brink of a major stride in its energy sector as preparations intensify for a pivotal electricity trade agreement. Scheduled for July 28, energy ministers from Bangladesh and India are set to visit Nepal to finalize the terms of this groundbreaking deal.
The agreement, initially inked between Nepal and Bangladesh, aims to facilitate the import of electricity from Nepal to Bangladesh via Indian transmission lines.
According to the proposed terms, Nepal will export 40 megawatts of electricity annually to Bangladesh during the six-month monsoon season. This arrangement, pending formalization at the upcoming ministerial meeting, is anticipated to commence this year.
Nepal expects to earn 6.40 cents per unit of electricity exported under this agreement, solidifying its role as a pivotal player in regional energy trade initiatives.
